Updates - It's been a while

Well hey there! It has been a while since I have posted anything, in fact, I did not post anything in the month of April. Bummer. Well the reason for the lack of posts is largely due to the fact that we've been busy with a few events and the planning of a few more. (photos to come soon)

Sea Otter Classic
I went out to the Sea Otter Classic to watch the Giant Factory Team race some short track XC, dual slalom, downhill and super d. They had a great showing with a handful of top tens and even a few wins! Another reason for my Sea Otter attendance was to race downhill Saturday morning. (Cat 2, don't get too excited) Ended up doing okay, finishing the day in 13th out of 35, and roughly 10 seconds off of the leader's time.

Idyllwild Spring Challenge May 1 - 2
Nate Dogg and I met up with Mr. Excitement in the lovely San Jacinto mountains for the Idyllwild Spring Challenge Super D race. What a great venue, with its high altitude, clean air, and radical dirt. It may have been the most fun I have had at a race thus far. Without having ridden the course, ever, and having missed our start times, we all managed a top ten finish, with Nate pulling a 5th place, and Ian taking 7th place after a full stop crash. Talk about excitement.

Moving forward
The Crew is looking to go out to the Simi track for a few more practice nights, and even do a race before the end of the month. Rad!

Also, events coming soon. Stayed tuned, good things to come....

Tuesday March 16 Practice

First off let me start out by saying, great turnout last night! The BMX Crew was in full force at Simi's Sycamore BMX track. Those in attendance were Jeremy, Evan, Nate, Travis, Gregg, and myself. Tabetha and Deanna came by to check it out, and Giant's new demo coordinator Eric came along and snapped a few great photos.

We practiced gate starts, including a few random gates, (the gate is dropped at random, the only indication is the sound of a few horns) worked on pumping the first straightaway and the rhythm section. I even saw Jeremy do a few X-ups over the big double and it looked like he was going to try a can-can. We had a blast, rode the entire practice, and came out without any injuries. Success! Join us next time, you will not regret it.

Longer days, shorter nights

Mark your calendars, march 14th is the day that Daylight Savings begins. This is awesome for us on The Crew because we get out to Simi's Sycamore BMX more often. (even though they have lights) Wednesdays are the days The Crew will be there for practice. And we will start racing shortly after this daylight savings thing happens. More details to follow...

I'll leave you with this, you are never too young or old, get out and ride!

Sycamore BMX Simi Valley

Sycamore BMX - Keeping kids clean in the dirt

A well-maintained, southern California favorite, Sycamore BMX is a great place to learn gate starts, rhythm sections, and high-speed berms. A full-face helmet is recommended for this track, as it more closely resembles concrete than loose dirt. Mike Day is a regular to this track, as are many other UCI professional racers, so keep an eye out for your favorite!

Visit the site for more information regarding first-timers, schedule, and directions

"Sycamore BMX is located in Simi Valley California. We are one of SoCals favorite BMX tracks and home to riders of all skill levels. We take pride in providing a safe and fun environment for everyone who enjoys BMX."

Freedom Park BMX Camarillo

Welcome to the GCC BMX blog. I am going to start off by posting a few different local tracks that the GCC BMX crew will be frequenting.

First up is the Freedom Park BMX track in Camarillo, CA. This is a really nice track with a mellow and easy-going atmosphere surrounding it. Riders of all ages and skill levels can race weekly. There is also the option to ride practice only and get psyched by racing your buddies.

Check out their site for schedule and upcoming events.

They also have a section for first-timers to learn about what to expect.
